The United States Air Force Explorers (USAFX) was
activated 1 March 1999 at Sky Harbor International Airport, Phoenix, AZ. The
command is located at the 161st Air Refueling Wing of the USAF Arizona Air National Guard providing Military
Aircrew and Special Ops Training for young men and women ages 14-21. The unit is the first in CONUS to provide such specialized
military training for the past 11 years. We provide the finest in youth military specialized
training available today.
The command
is organized using an USAF command level structure as a model with emphasis on Military Training
and Leadership Development. Cadets fulfill staff billets as well as other unit duties to accomplish mission
objectives. Staff officers and NCO’s assist them from both the military and civilian ranks. Cadets move on to achieve
their goals attending various Military Service Acadmies such as the USAFA, USNA or USMA.
Others progress on to University Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Programs
or may enlist in a service with Active Duty, Reserve or National Guard Units.
Those electing to remain in the civilian sector attribute their success to their USAFX Education.
Whichever path a Cadet chooses the Education, Training
and Accomplishments achieved with the USAFX will be one that
can be rewarding for a future Military Officer or Enlisted as attributed to our
Alumni who now serve in our Defense. They are the true leaders showing
future USAFX cadets' that you will make Life-long friends seeking service
among our Nation's Finest.
